Comstock – Kalamazoo Public Schools are among the 13 newly selected districts ReImagine demonstration project in Michigan, Michigan Department of Education announced recently.

Kalamazoo Department selected the proposal of 71 applications from the areas in an attempt to meet the challenges issued by the public school supervisor Mike Flanagan. He urged the departments to start the innovative strategies using public and private partnerships to help change the way in which the education delivered to Michigan students.

»It’s very exciting to Kalamazoo Public Schools was also selected as one of the provinces demonstration,’’said Sandra Comstock observer Standish. «For those of us who participate in Kalamazoo Public Schools, we know we are providing a wonderful educational opportunities for our students, and now others are aware of the neighborhood as well as«.

Because of the appointment and are eligible for inclusion in Michigan in a race to the top application – which provides an opportunity for regions to use federal funds to support economic recovery »a dramatic change in Michigan to prepare children for college and the 21st century global economy,’’said Flanagan.

Kalamazoo won the nomination by focusing on these areas:

T. expansion program opportunities for all students, with emphasis on those at risk of failure and the use of the Internet-based education projects in partnership with community organizations.

T. Early post-secondary transition, including helping students to achieve college credits and an associate degree through a partnership with Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

T-community partnerships to support the K-12 students, with a focus on individual education plans for development.

T Birth to Five program with services for at-risk children and their parents, including home visits and training programs that teach parents how to obtain community resources.

T. elementary and middle school education program of the Spanish language.

»We are pleased that many of the areas even worked in cooperation with partners in the community to re-imagine education and the proposal to reform the system,’’said Flanagan. »This is the incubator of reform that goes beyond the current end of the day, and can be replicated in schools across Michigan«.

Other districts in the area received the designation of the Grand Rapids and Battle Creek Lakeview.
